Common Name or Meaning The Yellow-Purple Odontoglossum

Flower Size 3 to 4" [7.5 to 10 cm]

Found in Andean Colombia in wet cloud forests along road cuts and steep slopes at elevations of 2000 to 3000 meters as a large sized, cold growing epiphyte with robust, oval, compressed pseduobulbs enveloped basally by 5 to 7, distichous, uppermost foliaceous sheaths and carrying 2 apical, rather rigid, ensiform, acute to acuminate, conduolicate below into the subpetiolate base leaves that blooms in at most any time of the year on an erect to lateral, arising from the upper leaf sheaths of a mature pseudobulb, many flowered, to 3 1/2' [105 cm] long, racemose, up to 12 flowered inflorescence with appressed, scale-like, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying large, waxy, faintly fragrant, highly color-variable flowers.
