This exceptional example of Arne Jacobsen's iconic egg chair dates from the first year of production when the chair was made with an integrated seat cushion rather than the more common loose pad. Besides a cleaner appearance, the result is a slightly more generous seat offering greater comfort. Other characteristics of the early production are the one-piece cast aluminum base with fluted column, and the painted Fritz Hansen mark on the underside. The chair retains its original black leather, which has an overall paatina, however it does have some dryness and cracking to the leather and some hardening foam. The right collector might want to use it as-is or have the leather stabilized / restored. Of course it could also be professionally reupholstered. Price is reflective of the condition.
