Elizabeth Banks is a Renaissance woman. Whether impressing audiences with her acting chops or calling the shots behind the scenes on the set of her latest film, Cocaine Bear, the 49-year-old star knows how to captivate a room. So when the multifaceted star opened up about all things aging and her go-to products for glowing skin, we were sure to listen. Despite doubting the many benefits of retinol and being nervous about dry skin, Banks eventually decided to try out the No7 product based on advice from her dermatologist, she told People. “I had to step up my beauty routine, and No7 made me feel comfortable changing things up,” Banks said in the interview. “People can be a little afraid of change, but No7 made it okay.”

“No7’s serums are tiny but pack a big punch,” she added. “I’m trying to age gracefully but I also want to feel confident that I’m doing what I can to stay confident about aging. My mental health is most important when it comes to beauty. That’s what I love about these products—they feel appropriate for me, but also I’m taking care of myself and not overthinking it.”

The powerhouse brightening serum is a “next generation age-defying” formula, according to the brand, that is powered by peptides, retinol, vitamin C, and vitamin E for skin that “looks instantly more radiant and healthy.” While the product certainly has an impressive list of ingredients (like antioxidants for skin health), we’d argue that retinol is by far the key player.

After all, “almost everyone can benefit from implementing [retinol] or prescription retinoids into their routine,” Libby Rhee, M.D., founder of Liora Dermatology & Aesthetics previously explained to Prevention. “Retinols and retinoids aid in cellular renewal which also can indirectly boost collagen production over time, contribute to a brighter, more evenly pigmented complexion, and improve skin tone.”

Plus, with 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon, it’s clear that Banks isn’t the only one loving the product. “This serum is so hydrating and covers nicely without being sticky or greasy. This is something I keep on reorder,” one reviewer wrote. “I love the feel of this serum on my skin. It has done wonders to keep my skin looking refreshed and definitely younger looking,” another added. “I notice a difference on my face with fewer wrinkles,” another reviewer chimed in.

In addition to going into detail about her favorite skincare product in the People interview, Banks also opened up about her thoughts on aging and beauty. “My philosophy really is age gracefully, whatever that means to you,” Banks explained.

“We live in a society that loves and values youth and beauty," she continued. “I like to remind people, you’re never going to look as good as you do today, right now, because aging is a privilege. It’s better than the alternative, right? You want to age, trust me.”
