Description

Rolled, bright-green, broad and glossy foliage with the good-sized white flowers in spring. An excellent garden species if you can start with good, healthy, moist-packed plants however it is increasingly a rare plant.

These are cultivated and correctly-named plants of this very distinctive Eastern Aegean and Turkish plant. I stress that ours are freshly-lifted and both nursery grown and raised. They are NOT the wild-collected, wizened mummies still available under this name in your local garden centre. The horticultural trade uses the name ikariae (incorrectly) for wild-harvested plants of Galanthus woronowii, which despite CITES regulations are still traded by the million each year through the Netherlands. This is allowed as the trade is considered “traditional”! (fortunately the same double-standard is not applied to traditional Ivory and traditional Rhino horn)
