Description

Lilium nanum Bhutan was originally an old S&L seed collection. Generations later, garden seed produced a batch of bulbs, which were decidedly blue-flowered. Our stock, here offered as Bhutan Blue, are seedlings of that particular batch. There is an old reference to blue Lilium nanum in New Flora and Silva in an article by R.E. Cooper on Bhutan.

Can I say that the plants are not gentian-blue and there is a good degree of variability, from blue-violet to bluish and right across to near white but still with a blue infusion. I tread a narrow line here between not wishing to mislead you with weasel-words, whilst stressing the very distinct nature of the colours in this strain – none of the shades that we have seen have been bad or sludgey, most are blue-inclined (and none are the usual nanum purple).

A fascinating colour strain which will always catch your eye and which also holds interest for breeding.
