Description
This was received as wild seed from China many years ago and has been brought through at least 2 generations of seed in cultivation. It makes 15-50 cm tall stems with graceful spikes of one to several palest rose-pink, almost white, nodding flowers with the slightest purple spotting in the centre of the widely open blooms. There are sometimes sporadic dark pink blotches on the petal faces as well. The exterior is deep dusky madder and makes a superb contrast in the bud.
As with all forms of N. aperta there is a lot of variability, the illustrated form is typical, but not guaranteed. Distinct from the ‘old’ garden form of cultivation, very lovely and very nice, a strong grower.
