onega shawl

This is a crescent shaped shawl worked top


down, 152 rows total. Samples shown are
worked with 4 pattern repeats. If you like your
shawls bigger, you can choose to knit 5 and
even 6 repeats.

White sample is knit on 3.5mm needles with


two strands held together, one strand of each
yarn – Kid Mohair (1000m/100g) and Lidia
(100% Wool, 1600m/100g). Finished
measurements – 140cm x 60cm, weight – 95g.

Gradient sample is knit on 4mm needles
with Kauni 8/1 (100% Wool, 800m/100g),
color Lamb. Finished measurements –
150cm x 65cm, weight – 125g (with
beads).

Border stitches are not charted!


Pattern repeat is highlighted in yellow and outlined in black. Grey and black squares
mean no stitch.
All WS (even) rows – purl all stitches inside borders. Border sts are always knit, both
on RS and WS.
- make 2 out of 1 stitch – knit and then purl into the same stitch
- make 3 out of 1 stitch – knit, YO, knit into the same stitch
Х – make 2 out of 3 stitches (with center stitch on top) – knit 2 stitches together; with
the tip of left needle lift left leg of the top stitch just worked (the 2 nd stitch) and knit it
and next stitch (the 3rd stitch) together through back loop.

If you decided to knit your shawl with 4 pattern repeats:
Start with a garter stitch tab – cast on 3 sts, knit 17 rows, at the end of the last row do not turn work but rotate 90
degrees, pick up and knit one stitch in each of 8 garter ridges, rotate 90 degrees and knit 3 stitches into the cast on
edge. 3+8+3=14 sts.
Next Row (WS): k3, p8, k3.
Start working from Chart 1.
Row 1: k3 (border sts, not charted), k8 (pattern repeat worked 4 times), k3 (border sts, not charted). Continue
working from charts.

If you decided to knit your shawl with 5 pattern repeats:


Start with a garter stitch tab – cast on 3 sts, knit 21 rows, at the end of the last row do not turn work but rotate 90
degrees, pick up and knit one stitch in each of 10 garter ridges, rotate 90 degrees and knit 3 stitches into the cast on
edge. 3+10+3=16 sts.
Next Row (WS): k3, p10, k3.
Start working from Chart 1.
Row 1: k3 (border sts, not charted), k10 (pattern repeat worked 5 times), k3 (border sts, not charted). Continue
working from charts.
