One of the oldest cultivars. ‘Osakazuki’ has been listed in nursery catalogs in Japan since the late 1800s. The name has reference to a saki cup, because the leaves have a small ‘cup’ to them. Leaves emerge light green with red tips, changing later to pure green. The samaras that may be present are brilliant red and very decorative. The most outstanding feature of this tree is its fire-engine red fall color - one of the brightest by far! ‘Osakazuki' is quite vigorous, and with time can reach 25’ tall. Expect it to get about 12’ tall in 10 years. Hardy in zones 5-8.
