America Ferrera's Favorite Barbie Press Tour Look Was Anything But Barbie

The Barbie press tour brought out some of the most iconic fashion moments of 2023, and America Ferrera was one of the many cast members who committed fully to the theme. But her favorite of all the designer fits she wore during the press tour is one that is the least Barbie-like look of them all.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Ferrera spoke about working with her longtime stylist Karla Welch to create the most eye-catching moments throughout the many press conferences, red (pink, actually) carpets, and interviews she did as part of the promotion for the summer blockbuster.

“I've had a lot of favorite Barbie fashion moments,” Ferrera told the magazine. “My stylist, Karla Welch, is just a killer. We had so much fun together.”

While Ferrera wore many gorgeous gowns — including a blush pink St. John dress and a red, cut-out mermaid gown— her favorite outfit of the entire tour was surprisingly all-black. Ferrera stunned in the leather Veronica Beard Pants and near-matching Tanya Taylor top, which she wore the outfit during a press conference in Seoul, Korea

"I just loved it so much," Ferrera said of the outfit. “I mean, I've loved so many of the outfits, so it's very hard to pick. But I remember putting this on and being like, 'This is exactly how I feel.'”

It's no wonder she felt powerful — the outfit was paired with sky-high, chunky heels and adorned with a thick belt. Stylist Karla Welch posted Ferrera's outfit on Instagram, captioning the carousel of photos, “AMERICA the BEAUTIFUL.”

“I love wearing a dress, but there's something about pants and heels that make me feel tall because I'm a whopping 5'2,” she said. “What's so brilliant about [Karla] is she is never putting clothes on me. She's always helping bring through the way I want to feel. Sometimes that's soft and feminine, and sometimes that's va va voom. And other times it's, like, badass boss in a pantsuit. I would say that I probably feel the most like myself in a badass pantsuit.”

America Ferrera plays Gloria in the film, who helps Margot Robbie's existential Barbie navigate the “real world” and restore order in Barbieland. The actor delivers a raw and relatable monologue about what it means to be a woman, which becomes a theme within the film.

Aside from earning more than $1 billion at the box office and becoming the biggest pop culture phenomenon of the year, Barbie's press tour (which was cut short in solidarity with the Hollywood strikes) was its own style sensation. Stereotypical Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, showed up to the many events in custom couture that mimicked many of the classic Barbie clothes. Brands including Valentino, Versace, and, Chanel made up some of the many pink outfits.
