Mandy Moore and Shane West may be celebrating 16 years since their iconic teen romance movie A Walk to Remember debuted, but the pair recall working on the project together as vividly as ever, and in fact, Mandy has even admitted that there was a point when she stopped distinguishing between Shane and his character, Landon.

"Shane was so cool," Mandy told EW, pointing to "the way he dressed...and the music he listened to," as hallmarks of his persona. "He was the character to me and there was definitely a part of me that absolutely fell in love with him. I don’t know if I could discern the difference between him and the character at that point in time because, again, it was my first experience doing anything like this and I was a 16-year-old, impressionable girl."

She went on to say that she walked away from the project convinced that there would never be anything else "as special" as that movie. "Shane was so wonderful. I didn’t know what I was doing and he’d done movies and he was on a critically acclaimed TV show. He had a lot of respect as an actor and I was just the total newbie. I didn’t even know how to hit a mark, I was so fresh-faced and naive. I felt incredibly lucky right off the bat that I had someone who was as willing to work with me and who was patient and understanding. He was just the perfect partner for that."

The two concluded their interview by trying to recall some of the lines in the movie. Shane said to Mandy: "I might kiss you," and she responded with the classic line: "I might be bad at it."

Last year, while commemorating the 15th anniversary of the movie, Shane tweeted that it would be fun to redo the commentary on the movie, narrating it all these years later. Mandy responded saying: "I'm in!" (Though there has not yet been word of this happening, we remain hopeful.)

Our hearts have officially exploded and will live forevermore in 2002.
