About Schubertii - Allium Bulbs (Tall)

Allium

Seed Type Bulb
Plant Type Tall
Also known as Flowering Onion, Persain Onion, Tumbleweed Onion, Ornamental Onion

The Schubertii allium grows up to 30 inches tall and is an amazing ornamental, with giant blooms that spread up to 15 inches wide! There are about 50 vivid, rose-purple flowers on each bloom, and a group of them together looks like exploding fireworks! Plant the bulbs in the fall, and by late spring or early summer, your garden will be a real attention-grabber with these stunners. When the seed heads dry out, they fall off the stems and roll away—that's why the Schubertii is more commonly known as "tumbleweed" allium. Like all alliums, the Schubertii does best in full sun, and it makes a great pollinator! Bees and butterflies love alliums, and because of their onion-y scent, deer stay away.
