Birthdays are often celebrated differently in Chinese culture, it will vary from province to province.

A notable difference is that in some places in China age is calculated according to the lunar calendar without counting zero which means when a child born his /her age is automatically considered as one.

    Common Chinese New Year gifts

It's common for money to be placed in a red envelope or packet and to be given as a gift.

Normally, it's older people that gift their children or younger relatives with these red envelopes.

Chinese superstitions also favour amounts that begin with even numbers as odd numbers are associated with the cash given during funerals.
