A traffic stop in Pike County led to the discovery of explosive charges and firearms.

The Pike County Sheriff's Office tried to pull over a car on Sept. 29, 2021, when the driver sped off.

The driver, identified as Tanner Reed, finally pulled over near Perry Street at Madison Street.

Subsequent to an investigation, law enforcers discovered a firearm, ammunition, and home-made explosive devices.

Reed, 26, was taken into custody and taken to a medical facility.

On September 30, 2021, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department followed up with the investigation and conducted a court-authorized search warrant at a home located on 212th Avenue, Pearl, Pike County, Illinois.

Officers seized a firearm, ammunition, methamphetamine, home-made explosive devices, and a computer from the search.

On October 6, 2021, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department arrested Reed on a no-bond Pike County warrant for the offense of unlawful possession of explosive or incendiary devices.

Reed remains in the Pike County Jail. The incident remains under investigation and further charges are likely. The Pittsfield Police Department and Illinois Secretary of State Bomb Squad assisted with the investigation.
