They’ll bring you right out into the fjord network. It all culminates in a flight to Norway’s Arctic north, where you might want to add snowmobiling and dogsledding to your included Northern Lights excursion.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK/Oslo

Flying out to Oslo, you’ll make your way to your central hotel. Located near to the city’s opera house, this property is ideally suited to explore all of the Norwegian capital’s highlights on its doorstep. To keep you occupied, there’s everything from ultra-modernist architecture, museums and sculpture parks to the neoclassical Royal Palace and a fantastic café culture.

    Stay: Thon Hotel Opera, Oslo

  • Day 2 » Norway in a Nutshell: Oslo to Flåm

After breakfast, you’ll board the train from Oslo to Myrdal. Although this is delightfully scenic, travelling over a high mountain plateau, it’s the next leg that might just linger longest in your memory. Travelling on the Flåm Railway, you’ll enjoy what is widely regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular train journeys, mapping rivers, waterfall gorges and tunnel gasps to arrive in the quiet country village of Flåm. Here, we highly recommend exploring the surrounding countryside by snowshoes or enjoying a Viking meal and craft beer at the Ægir brewery. Your rustic-chic hotel is equally delightful, all wooden floors and mountain views.

    Stay: Hotel Flamsbrygga

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 3 » Flåm to Bergen

You’ll depart Flåm today on a fjord cruise, admiring the towering scenery and magnificent jags of Aurlandsfjord and UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. Then, arriving in Gudvangen, a bus and train pair will see you wind through the Norwegian countryside to Bergen for a two-night stay at one of its most popular hotels. The former shipping headquarters has been transformed into an elegant landmark property - complete with turret affording 360 views of the city.

    Stay: Clarion Collection Havnekontoret, Bergen

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 4 » Bergen

After a gourmet breakfast, you’ll have a full day to explore Norway’s second city. Be sure to centre on its UNESCO-listed wharf, where painted timber warehouses remember all the might of the centuries-old Hanseatic trading league. Today it’s given over to artsy boutiques and galleries. Then, alongside the fish market and historic centre’s heritage architecture, you might also want to take the funicular or cable car into the surrounding mountains. They offer fantastic views out over the city and onto its fjord backdrop.

    Stay: Clarion Collection Havnekontoret, Bergen

  • Days 5-6 » Tromso

Flying up to Tromso, you’ll cross into Norway’s Arctic north. Here, we’ve included a Northern Lights Hunt by minibus, heading out to the best spots to view the aurora and away from any light pollution. Further optional excursions range from dogsledding and snowmobiling to whale safaris and visits up Fjellheisen - the cable car offering a spectacular view of Tromso and the surrounds. Otherwise, back in the city, you’ll have church-town architecture and museums on Arctic exploration to keep you interested, along with an excellent bar-and-restaurant scene. You’ll also stay right on Tromso’s harbour, in a bustling contemporary hotel.

    Stay: Clarion Hotel The Edge
