Southern Alpine leek (Allium insubricum) is a species of plant in the leek genus (Allium). The Southern Alpine Leek is found in the Italian Southern Alps between Lake Como and Lake Garda. Southern alpine leek is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches growth heights of 15 to 30 cm. This geophyte forms bulbs as a survival organ. The elongated bulb is surrounded by a thin, papery skin forming a cylindrical sheath. The stem is erect, light green and has two edges. It has three to four flat, linear, grass-like leaves with a blunt tip enclosing it in the lower third, up to 5 mm wide. The always nodding umbellate inflorescence consists of three to five flowers.
