Oct 10, 2008 - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - "Pablo Presley, " acrylic on paper by BONNIE DALY, on view at the Museum of Bad Art, which is housed in the basement of the Somerville Theatre. Founded in 1994, MOBA is dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms. Its permanent collection of hundreds of works of questionable art, most rescued from the garbage, found in thrift stores and flea markets or sent to the museum by donors, is exhibited, on a rotating basis, in the basement of movie houses in both Somerville and Dedham, Massachusetts. Bad art, as defined by MOBA, "must be original, and show one or more of the following: complete artistic control, no artistic control, courage and enthusiasm, unusual use of color, interesting use of perspective, strange subject matter." MOBA does not accept "reproductions, works on velvet, paint-by-numbers, factory or mass-produced art, obvious student exercises, or deliberately made bad art." For those unable to travel to the Boston area, MOBA's collection can be seen online and in two books, "The Museum of Bad Art" and "The Museum of Bad Art Masterworks."
